Do you want to sleep on a mattress that has toxic chemicals? No!

And neither should your dog or cat.

Many of the less expensive pet beds are imported from China. The foam mattresses used in the beds may contain toxic and harmful chemicals, such as arsenic, formaldehyde, lead, mercury, and bromine.

Considering your pet may sleep for more than 15 hours each day it is important for a pet owner to be sure your dog or cat Is sleeping on a safe bed.

As you probably already know, quality mattresses for people can be expensive. To lower the cost of a pet mattress manufacturers have often used cheap fill materials that contain harmful chemical substances. There is little government or no safety regulation for pet beds and mattresses. The disclosure of material is not required. Therefore, a pet owner is not aware of the hazardous substances that are used.

Dangerous Chemicals

Chemicals, such as arsenic can cause damage to the liver, spleen, kidneys, lungs, gastrointestinal tract and other organs. Lead poisoning can lead to malnutrition, kidney damage, vomiting, blindness, nervous system complications and other compromising health issues in a pet. Bromine is often used as a flame retardant. Its appearance in foam mattresses may cause a pet to suffer gastro problems including stomach swelling and pain, vomiting, lethargy, constipation, muscle tremors and spasms, pancreatitis, depression. In addition, continuous exposure can also sometimes be fatal. Lead poisoning is dangerous to both humans and animals and can lead to kidney damage, vomiting, blindness, nervous system complications and other health issues. PBDEs are found in cheap pet beds and affect the functioning of the thyroid and brain. Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) has a characteristic smell and a dog’s sensitive nose picks up the odor. A small amount over time causes liver damage, reproductive damage and sometimes cancer.

The watchword is to be CAREFUL. A cheap price often means cheap quality.
